Michael Gough, known for portraying Batman’s trusty butler, dies at 94

British actor Michael Gough passed away yesterday, the performer was known for portraying “Alfred”, Bruce Wayne’s trusted butler and assistant in the older batman series of films. The first two installments in the series, “Batman” and “Batman Returns” were directed by renowned director Tim Burton while the third and fourth installments “Batman & Robin” and “Batman Forever” were directed by Joel Schumacher.Gough began his acting career in 1940 and presented more than 150 cinema, television and stage productions between Britain and the United States throughout his career. Some of his most important works were completed during a period which saw him collaborate with Tim Burton. Aside from the “Batman” series, Gough also worked with Burton on “Sleepy Hollow” and on voiced roles in “Corpse Bride” and “Alice in Wonderland”. The latter would be the actor’s final performance.
