Ruby sentenced to one year in jail and a 1000 pound fine for tax evasion

The tax evasion court held a session two days ago, Sunday, a session which was chaired by justice Mohamed Ghoneim. The session concluded with a sentence specifying that musician Ruby be imprisoned for a period of one year with labor. Furthermore Ruby is to pay a 1000 pound fine for evading 200 thousand pounds in taxes on her salary for the film “al-Wa’d” (“The Promise”) – a salary which amounted to about a million pounds. Ruby did not pay the requested taxes for that production and thus a tax evasion authority had decided to transfer her case to the courts which issued their verdict on Sunday.It should be noted that Ruby assumed a leading role in the cinema production “al-Wa’d” alongside renowned actor Mahmoud Yasseen, actor Asser Yasseen and renowned Syrian actor Ghassan Mass’oud. The screenplay for the production was authored by the esteemed writer Waheed Ahmed. Moreover the work was directed by Mohamed Yasseen.Ruby’s previous cinema work was “al-Shawq” (“The Passion”), that title saw her act alongside Ahmed ‘Azmi and Sawsan Badr. The screenplay for that title was authored by Sayyid Ragab and it was directed by Khaled al-Hagar. It should also be noted that “al-Shawq” received the Golden Pyramid award for the best film at the 34th International Cairo Film Festival. Actress Sawsan Badr also received the award for best actress for her role in that title, an award which saw her tied with French actress Isabelle Oper.
