Ruby has received a verdict which specifies a one year imprisonment with labor and a fine of one thousand pounds for allegedly evading 200 thousand pounds in taxes owed for her participation in the cinema title “al-Wa’d” (“The Promise”). Thus the actress has presented a challenge to the verdict which was issued against her whereby she has accused her accountant for being the reason behind her being embroiled in the tax evasion case due to his allegedly presenting financial disclosure documents which downplayed her earnings to a great extent. In particular it is alleged that her accountant had submitted tax return documents which stated that her income in 2008 was 20 thousand pounds only, something which she has described as “incomprehensible”. This is despite the fact that she had ostensibly presented to him all documents pertaining to projects which she had taken part in between 2007 and 2010.Ruby has added that her lawyer Dr. Hussam Lotfy – professor of corporate law at Beni Suweif University’s law faculty – had attended the court session which was held on the 27th of March 2011 and had asked the judge to allow postponement until an expert could be called in to calculate the amount of tax payments owed on returns for Ruby’s 2008 film “al-Wa’d”. However the judge issued the previously mentioned verdict, this has led her to request an immediate appeal and to challenge the verdict and to ask for a stay of execution.Ruby also indicated that in 2009 she undertook her first production experience when she produced the music clip “Yarmoush”. The endeavor cost her 120 thousand dollars as she had hired a German cameraman, in addition to utilizing special cameras and covering the expenses for the trip to the Siwa oasis close to the Libyan border where the clip was filmed. Moreover the director of the clip and the executive producer Ahmed Mehdy each received 110 thousand dollars for the endeavor. Ruby has affirmed that all of this is documented in the form of papers and receipts which she has attached to the tax evasion case.
