Actress Menna Shalaby has rebuffed claims which were made concerning her agreeing to take part in director Inass al-Daghdaghi’s new film “al-Samt” (“The Silence”). Menna was surprised to learn that reports were published on a number of websites claiming that she had agreed to take part in the said film. It is noted that the film title “al-Samt” had caused wide controversy a few months ago when monitors refused to green-light the film due to what it contained in terms of controversial dialogue and scenes. However al-Daghdaghi presented her case to the appeal’s committee at the high council for culture and received an approval for the film’s screenplay. The approval was however conditional on revisions to parts of the film. Following the revolution, some have said that the monitoring body has agreed to the film without any revisions.Menna was apparently supposed to portray the role of a psychiatrist investigating the circumstances surrounding a girl’s suicide following her being sexually abused by her father. The psychiatrist insists on revealing the dark secrets to do with the case, particularly as she had suffered the same experience years ago.It is noted that Menna Shalaby is currently filming her role in the film “Beebo wa Basheer” where she shares the lead with actor Asser Yasseen. The screenplay for that film was authored by Hisham Maged and Kareem Fahmy, moreover it is directed by Mariam Abou ‘Ouf.
