Mel Gibson: “I still have friends in Hollywood”

Mel Gibson says, in an interview with Deadline website, Whoopi Goldberg and Jodie Foster are not the only celebrities to stand by him during his high-profile troubles; others support him even they are not showing.Asked what he thinks of Goldberg publicly defending him, Gibson replied; "I knew Whoopi before she was Whoopi. Moreover, as she is great and I always liked her and loved her. I like her even more now because she got it." He also praised Jodie Foster for defending him and said that they will work together in his upcoming film “The beaver”, directed by Jodie herself.Continued: “I understand why others did not show support publicly, they do not want to drag themselves through trouble. In such situations, you know who your friend is and who is not”. The "Braveheart" and "Lethal Weapon" star has become a polarizing figure in recent years due to anti-Semitic remarks he made during a 2006 drunken driving arrest and his stormy relationship with his Russian ex-girlfriend “Oxana Grigorieva” who accused him of domestic violence.
