Actor Jeff Conaway dies

Jeff Conaway, the personable actor who won television fame on the sitcom “Taxi” and film success in the musical “Grease” three decades ago and who later publicly struggled with drug and alcohol abuse, died on Friday in Los Angeles. He was 60.Conaway was taken off life support at Encino Hospital Medical Center, said his sister Carla Shreve to Los Angeles Times newspaper. He had pneumonia when he arrived unconscious at the hospital May 10, the result of "just too many prescribed drugs," and was placed in a medically induced coma, she said.Conaway was born in New York (October 1960), he had begun appearing in films and on television and had performed in the Broadway production of "Grease" before the film version starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John was released in 1978.Conaway played the lead role in three seasons of the series “Taxi” along with Danny De Vito, Marilu Henner and Tony Danza. He also participated in “The bold and the beautiful” and “Babylon 5”.Jeff Conaway was married three times. His second marriage, from 1980 until their divorce in 1985, was to Rona Newton-John, Olivia's sister. His third marriage was to Keri Young from 1990 until their divorce.
