Russia celebrates Naguib Mahfooz for 3 days.

Today, on Tuesday the 13th of December, the Egyptian Cultural office in Moscow and author and writers union of Russia commences its celebration of the birth of the late great Egyptian writer Naguib Mahfooz.Yesterday, would have been his one hundredth birthday. He is considered one of the legendary authors and writers of the century.The celebration takes place in the Russian capital Moscow, which includes a book fair that contains all of his books and writings as well as photographs of him during several phases of his life. The Cultural office will also hold 2 seminars, one that discusses Mahfooz’s work in general and its ramifications especially socially and literally. The other seminar discusses his novel “Awlad Haretna” or “Children of our neighborhood” and all the circumstances surrounding it ever since it was banned from publishing during the fifties all the way up till the event that led to stabbing Naguib Mahfooz because of it , who was the only Egyptian then to achieve the “Nobel Prize”At the end of the celebration a documentary of Naguib Mahfooz’s life will be displayed produced by the Egyptian television.
