"The Tree of Life" is the OSCAR's surprise

The Academy of Motion Pictures Art and Sciences announced its nominees for Best Achievements of 2011. Many nominees where pretty much accepted, but it did carry along some surprises. The major surprise was "The Tree of Life" who has earned the Cannes' Palme d'Or received three nominations for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Cinematography. Terrance Malik's film deserves such nomination even though it was ignored by Hollywood Trade Unions.Getting a nomination in all categories, was Martin Scorsese' "Hugo" that collected all 11. And with 10 nominations, comes the French film "The Artis" to become the first candidate to receive the Best Picture Award. The other major surprise was giving "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close" by Stephen Daldry a Best Picture nomination.
