Born on 22 February and started their dancing careers with the same band, Taheya Karioka and Samia Gamal are considered the most famous and talented belly dancers not only in Egypt but in the Arab World as well.Badaweya Mohamed Karim Ali Alsayed, later known as Taheya Karioka was born on 22 February 1915, has first appeared with Badeea Masabni dancing band which introduced her to the cinema and theater. She became famous after performing "Al Karioka" that gained her an international fame. Taheya was not just a talented dancer, but also a talented actress who appeared in many films like "Le'bit El Sitt – The Woman's game" with Najeeb El Raihani in 1946 and "Shabab Emraa – A Woman's Youth" which was directed by Salah Yousef in 1956. In the mid fifty's, Taheya left dancing to become an actress only until she passed away on 20 September 1999.Nine years later, on 22 February 1924, Zeinab Khalil Ibrahim Mahfouz. Also known as Samia Gamal was born. Samia also started dancing with Badeea Masabni's band until she got minor roles in many films. She finally got her chance in a leading role in front of Al Raihani in the film "Ahma Shafayef – Red Lipstick" in 1946. Later she made more films but most importantly with singer Farid Al Atrash where they performed a unique duet where fans waited for their films together with passion. Farid would sing and Samia would dance to his warm voice and beautiful songs. After performing in more than fifty films, Samia decided to leave her career in the seventy's. But then she returns for a while in the eighty's before she passed away in December 1994. Taheya and Samia shared the same birthday, passion for dancing and a unique talent where each one of them had her own style that left them present in the hearts and minds of their fans till today.
