Today at the 65th Cannes Festival; "On the Road" filmmakers attended their press conference to talk about the film. Director Walter Salles said his first intentions of the film were to make it as a documentary that focuses on the time before the "Beat Generation. He said that it took him 8 years to direct the film that handles the political and social awareness of two guys from that generation. He also said that he intended for the making to be improvised more than planned and that the cast have co-wrote it somehow but stayed committed to the original story written by Jack Kerouac. Lead actress Kristen Stewart said that she is impressed by the character she is playing "Marylou" and said it is the soul of the story.
