The Bond blockbuster “Skyfall” has not only fulfilled but exceeded expectations of being the top earner in the box office this week. In its first few days alone, it earned $30.8 million, playing in 3,505 theaters in North America. By the end of last week, that number had grown to $87.8 million. The film, the 23rd in the Bond series, was released in a number of theaters across the globe, its total earnings a soaring $428.6 million internationally. Daniel Craig, the rock of the film, stars alongside Javier Bardem, Judi Dench, Ralph Fiennes, Naomi Harris and Berenice Marlohe in the Sam Mendes directed epic. The top earner last week, the animated “Wreck-It Ralph,” has settled into second place this week. The gap between the top two earners continues to grow, as Skyfall’s devastating success becomes more evident. “Wreck-It Ralph” has week earned $33 million this week, bringing up revenues in its two-week run to $93.6 million. “Flight” was bumped this week from second to third place, earning Paramount Pictures an additional $15.1 million, making the earnings of the company $47.7 million in its second week. Ben Affleck’s “Argo” fell to fifth place from fourth. The political thriller made an additional $6.7 million this week, bringing the total up to $85.7 million. “Taken 2” maintained its fifth place position, managing to reach $4 million this week. “Here Comes the Boom” advanced three spots from last week. At sixth place this week, the film has added $2.5 million to its total earnings. This is only a hair above “Cloud Atlas,” which in seventh place has earned a total of earning $2.5 million this week. “Pitch Perfect” was able to join the ranks of the top ten earning films this week, with its revenues just reaching $2.5 million at the end of this week, while “The Man with the Iron Fists” majorly fell back from fourth last week to ninth this week. Its weekly earnings stand at $2.4 million. And lastly, “Hotel Transylvania” is in tenth place, collecting $2.3 million this week. It is now in its seventh week in cinemas. After opening in 11 American theaters at the end of last week, Spielberg’s “Lincoln” has already made $900,000—a good start for the film that will be released more widely on November 16.
