Attendees of the Doha Tribeca Film Festival were treated to a 30-minute conversation with the beloved yet somewhat aloof Robert De Niro, who happens to co-own the festival with the Doha Film Institute (DFI).
The 69-year-old actor discussed his artistic experiences, his long journey and body of work, and also took some questions from the audience.
When the question of retirement arose, De Niro replied, "I don't see myself stopping. I think I've done pretty OK. But I'm also always thinking where I can go from here... and looking at how I can do something different. But I'm looking forward to new things."
De Niro will be premiering his new film "Silver Linings Playbook," which is already getting rave reviews, at the festival. The quirky romantic comedy stars it-girl Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper, who both play eccentric, flawed characters struggling with mental illness.
The "Raging Bull" star also said if he were to direct again, he'd love to work with Leonardo DiCaprio, Bradley Cooper, Sean Penn and Matt Damon.
His advice to young and aspiring filmmakers? "Just plug away."
The Doha festival runs from 17 to 24 of November.
