British actress Kate Winslet can now add the prestigious CBE medal to her collection of awards and accolades. Queen Elizabeth II presented the medal to the 37-year-old Oscar winner yesterday at Buckingham Palace. The medal, for her "services to drama," honors her contributions to the film industry. The medal is one of the highest honors one can receive in the British Empire.
On top of the esteemed distinction, Winslet also had the honor of making small talk with the Queen as she accepted the award. Winslet told Daily Mail the Queen asked if she enjoyed working as an actress. "I said yes I liked it but not as much as being a mother. She said, 'it is the best job.'" Winslet is a mother of two, the elder from her first marriage, and the younger from her marriage to "Skyfall" director Sam Mendes, from whom she split in 2010.
Always humble and gracious, Winslet admitted to feeling out of place among the other honorees. "I have just been watching all these amazing men and women being honored for literally laying their lives down on the line, so to be rewarded for my services to drama doesn't really have the same gravity, does it?"
Winslet looked sharp in a black Alexander McQueen skirt suit, which she paired with an eye-catching feathered cap from up-and-coming hat designer Natalie Ellner.
