The gears are in motion for a follow-up to the fanciful, Tim Burton directed "Alice in Wonderland." The first film, which came out in 2010, was nominated for three Oscars, and won for best costume and best artistic direction.

Last year Andy Hendrickson, Disney's chief technical officer, was quoted as saying "the story isn't very good, but visual spectacle brought people in droves, and Johnny Depp didn't hurt." Despite this admission, Variety magazine has reported that writer Linda Woolverton, who penned the script for the first film, has started working on the script for the sequel. What is unclear at this point is whether the iconic Tim Burton will be resuming his role as director.

"Alice in Wonderland" was jam-packed with pure Hollywood talent; it starred Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Mia Wasikowska, Anne Hathaway and Joe Roth. Both the cast and the 3D technology contributed to its success, with total revenues surpassing one billion dollars after a worldwide release.
