Oscar-winning director Peter Jackson confirmed he will start working on sequel to "The Adventures of Tintin" in the new year, and is aiming for a 2015 release.
The first film, which was nominated for an Oscar, was based on the popular children's comic books by the Belgian author Herge. It was directed by the legendary Steven Spielberg, with Jackson producing. Despite this dynamite tag team, the film did not sweep the American box office as expected. It made $78 million domestically, far below covering the costs of the film, and $296 million abroad. This time around, they'll be swapping roles with Jackson in the director's chair and Spielberg producing.
It is still unclear whether or not the actors in the first film will be returning to their roles in the new film. "The Adventures of Tintin" starred Daniel Craig, Jamie Bell, Andy Serkis, Simon Pegg, Cary Elwes, Toby Jones, and Nick Frost.
Jackson will certainly have his hands full in the next few years. He plans on making and releasing the new Tintin film in the midst of "The Hobbit" trilogy, the second and third of which will be released in 2013 and 2014 respectively. "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" is now playing in Egyptian theaters.
