North America's new comer "Hansel &Gretel: Witch Hunters" debut on the top of the box office with 19.6million dollars which was disappointing to Paramount who estimated a morerewarding premiere for their 60 million dollar budget action/fantasy/horrorfilm. The film is directed by Tommy Wirkola and stars Jeremy Renner and GemmaArterton and is due to hit theaters in Egypt on 30 January.
"Mama" which was pushed back tosecond place made this week 13 million to make its total gross since its release48.8 million dollars. Another decline was for "Zero Dark Thirty" with9.6 million dollars in its sixth week at the box office and "SilverLinings Playbook" goes down to fourth place with 9.4 million in itseleventh week.
The second new comer this week is"Parker" which landed in fifth place with 7 million in its premiereweek. "Parker" is an action film directed by Taylor Hackford andstars Jason Statham, Jennifer Lopez, Clifton Collins Jr., Nick Nolte and DanielBernhardt.
Quentin Tarantino's "DjangoUnchained" goes up to sixth place with 4.9 million dollars in its fifthweeks in theaters while the comedy "Movie 43" lands in seventh placein its week premiere with 4.8 million dollars which is an all star cast and isa number of short connected films but it didn't earn a good critics and viewers'review.
"Gangster Squad"made 4.2 million dollars after three weeks in theaters and sits in eighth placewith a total gross of 39.7 million so far. As for the musical remake of VictorHugo's "Les Miserables", it sings its way to ninth place with 4.2million dollars this week while "Broken City" faces a huge setback fromfifth to tenth place with 4 million this week to make its total gross after twoweeks 15.2 million dollars.
