It seems that not being nominated for an Oscar for Best Director was less of a curse and more of a blessing for actor-director Ben Affleck. His latest film"Argo" won him the Best Director Award in the Golden Globes and the Critics Guild Awards and also as Best Picture in both, and now he walked away with the top film honour at the 65th Directors Guild Honours which took place at Ray Dolby Ballroom in Hills Center in Hollywood.

Affleck, who was competing with the great Steven Spielberg for "Lincoln",Kathryn Bigelow for the controversial "Zero Dark Thirty" and Tom Hooper in his musical version of Victor Hugo's "Les Misérables," commented “I don't think that this makes me a real director, but I think it means I'm on my way." This award makes Affleck the seventh director to have won without being nominated at the Academy Awards in the Best Director category.

Other wins were for director Lena Dunham who earned the guild honour for TV Comedy and Ryan Johnson who won for drama series for "Breaking Bad".
