Don't fix it if it ain't broken, they say. Director David O. Russell understands the conventional wisdom of keeping something, or someone, around when it works well. Russell has had massive critical and commercial success collaborating with Jennifer Lawrence, who lit up the screen in his 8-time Oscar nominated "Silver Linings Playbook."
He's now signed her on to his new film about the 1970s FBI sting operation, ABSCAM, an unprecedented orchestrated ruse involving a con artist, Mel Weinberg, and a made-up sheikh. The ABSCAM operation set out to snuff out corruption and bribery in the U.S. Congress.
Christian Bale, Amy Adams, comedian Louis C. K. and "Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters" star Jeremy Renner are all tied to the project as well. Lawrence's "Silver Linings Playbook" co-star Bradley Cooper will also have a part in the film.
When production wrapped on "Silver Linings Playbook" in the winter of 2011, Russell soon signed the Lawrence-Cooper duo to headline his next film "Selena," set in Depression-era North Carolina. Cooper and Lawrence play a married couple experiencing fertility problems. It's set to come out in September 2013.
