"A Good Day to Die Hard" made it through its opening weekend with a hefty $25 million grossed in the North American box office. Bruce Willis resumes his legendary role as John McClane in the film, which was shot outside of the United States. It's now showing in Egypt at the Vodafone IMAX Theater.
Placing second, the Melissa McCarthy comedy "Identify Thief" made an impressive $23.4 million this week, after taking the #1 slot last week. Its total earnings stand at $70.7 million.
"Safe Haven" opened this week to $21.5 million. The heart-wrencher, starring the hunky Josh Duhamel and Julianne Hough, and was adapted from a novel by "The Notebook" author Nicholas Sparks.
In fourth place comes the animated "Escape from Planet Earth," which made $16.1 million in its first week in theaters, followed by the zom-rom-com (translation: zombie romantic comedy) "Warm Bodies," which slid back in the box office rankings but added $9 million to its total earnings this week.
The supernatural star-crossed romance of "Beautiful Creatures" attracted enough viewers to make $7.5 million in its opening weekend, but not enough to fully tap into the massive "Twilight" demographic. In seventh and eighth places are "Side Effects" and "Silver Linings Playbook," which made $6.3 and $6.1 million respectively. "Silver Linings Playbook" was nominated for eight Oscars.
"Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters" comes in at ninth, having made $3.5 million, followed by the Oscar-nominated Bin Laden drama "Zero Dark Thirty" which made $3.1 million this week.
