The Tribeca Film Festival in New York, which began yesterday, has announced a new prize honoring the late director Nora Ephron ( Sleepless in Seattle, You've Got Mail), who passed away this June 26, 2012. The prize will be given each year to "a woman writer or director with a distinctive voice who embodies the spirit and vision of the legendary filmmaker and writer," as the press release says.

The accolade, which comes with an inspiring $25,000 check, will be presented for the first time on April 25 at the festival's Women Filmmaker Brunch. This year there are eight contenders for the prize.

The esteemed Tribeca Festival runs from April 17 to 28.
