Egyptian dancer Sama El Masry put out her fourth music video on YouTube, titled "Ahaih," as an expression of her anger towards the Muslim Brotherhood and President Mohamed Morsi’s policies. In the video, Sama dances wearing not only the typical sequined belly dancer get-up, but also a hijab and a niqab, a move that has invited the rage of Islamists who have decried the video and accused Sama of contempt of religion.
In her defense, Sama stated exclusively to that she added at the beginning of the music video that she is acting. And if anyone accuses her of contempt of religion should also do the same against the actors who wear beards in their films. The outrage against her video has reminded Sama of the case brought against Adel Emam, which led to nothing. Furthermore, Sama said if she is ever arrested during the period of the Muslim Brotherhood's rule, it would be an honor.
The dancer also claimed that after her video was released, she received a number of threatening phone calls from Islamists calling her a whore and saying she should not have touched the hijab and the niqab. She pointed out that by wearing the niqab she is not offending Islam or the Quran, as it is not mentioned in the Quran.
