Columbia Pictures has announced in a press statement that they're giving the go-ahead to a " Bad Teacher" sequel. The project is currently in development, and will be directed by the first film's Jake Kasdan.
Cameron Diaz, who played the irresponsible and brazen teacher in the first film, hasn't officially signed on to resume her role in the comedy, but according to the Huffington Post, insiders say it's a "done deal."
The first film, which grossed $215 million internationally in 2011 on a $20 million budget, also starred Jason Segel and Justin Timberlake. Surprisingly, the film has had a considerable amount of staying power: on top of the sequel, it's also soon to be adapted for a TV show.
