According to host of Al Nahar's "Akher Al Nahar," Mahmoud Saad, he received word yesterday from the channel's owners that the show was soon to be aken off the air permanently, in a surprising move.
Host and newsman Saad announced in a telephone interview on OnTV's "Baladna bel Masry" yesterday that the owners had told him he would be working his last days, citing current unrest and the impending events to take place at the end of June, which they said wouldn't be a revolution, but strife (the word fitnah in Arabic) and destruction of the country.
Saad added that the decision to halt the show is a good sign, as he was also preventing from working before January 25, 2011. He stressed that although he respects the point of view of the owners, each man must bear the consequences of his own views and opinions, and not the opinions of others.
Update: According to Egypt Independent, channel owner Alaa El-Kahky has said that the show will only be temporarily halted, for a week or so, and the impetus behind the move was "calming things down, as the current situation is critical and very worrying."
