While there were no daring stunts in Sofia Coppola's " The Bling Ring," which came out last week in the U.S., Emma Watson did sustain a minor injury while shooting a scene. Watson plays one of the real-life teens who stole millions by raiding the homes of celebrities like Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan.
Watson told the Daily Star, "we were doing a scene in a nightclub and this girl accidentally put her stiletto through my toe! And the crazy thing is, I had so much adrenaline going through my system that I just kept dancing until, finally, I looked down at my foot and saw the blood."
The teens, who were eventually caught, used the internet first to track the whereabouts of the stars, and then to boast their spoils on Facebook, which ironically and not surprisingly led to their arrest. The movie has inspired some interesting discussions of American culture, and its more vapid, reality TV obsessed aspects. As NPR's John Powers link, "you could believe its plot was dreamed up by some witty professor of cultural studies who wanted to make a point about American consumerism and celebrity mania."
