Canadian " Glee" star Cory Monteith, 31, was found dead in his Vancouver hotel room yesterday. Maids discovered his body several hours after he had missed his checkout time. He was alone when he died.
Local authorities have yet to determine or announce a cause of death, though police announced they suspected "no foul play." It is still unclear whether his death had any connection to his addiction problems, as the star did a voluntary stint in rehab this year, his second time in a program for alcoholism.
Expressions of grief and shock are outpouring from his cast mates, colleagues and fans. His representatives said in a statement, "We are in shock and mourning this tragic loss," while the show's producers at Fox said Cory was "an exceptional talent and an even more exceptional person. He was a true joy to work with and we will miss him tremendously."
Monteith shot up to superstardom playing the highschool heartthrob on the musical series, which was his first professional gig. It was on the show that he met Lea Michele, who plays the do-gooder protagonist Rachel Berry, who he had been dating for the past two years. According to a statement from her spokesperson, Michele is "devastated" and has asked for privacy in this time.
