Composer Hany Shenouda is in the midst of cooking up an operetta titled "Mabrouk le Masr" (Congratulations, Egypt) in celebration of what Egyptians accomplished with the June 30 protests. Shenouda decided the cast of his production would be comprised of entirely Egyptians; the auditioning process is currently underway.
Shenouda made an exclusive statement to explaining that the show will send a message of love to Egypt and its great people, celebrating their ability to defeat injustice. He praised the hard work of the military in protecting Egypt and Egyptians, and stressed that the artists' and intellectuals' sit-in at the Culture Ministry in the weeks leading up to June 30 was a spark for the wave of protests that saw all Egyptians coming out, without leadership or directives, to express their political will and their objection to the Brotherhood regime.
As for the name, Shenouda told us the operetta was already in the works before June 30, in pure faith that Egyptians would triumph in the end. He plans to premiere the show in a big celebration in Giza, but only after the situation has stabilized.
