Via his personal account on Twitter, artist Khaled El Sawy declared he was splitting away from the Revolutionary Socialists movement thirteen years after joining the group. Sawy tweeted: “13 years with RS, but from the 30th of June and our views are diverging concerning priorities, that's why I'm leaving the movement. From now on national and class issues are two faces to the same coin.”
A large number of the artist's followers supported his decision, among them is the screenwriter Medhat El Adl who commented: “@ link how great you are, an artist of national interest above all.”
Notably, the artist, who has been a member of the RS movement and the Socialist Popular Alliance Party, has recently showed compassion and support for the army and police in their dispersal of the Brotherhood sit-in, while the Revolutionary Socialists' position was that excessive force was used.
