Taylor Swift has been cast in the “The Giver” alongside Oscar collector Meryl Streep, the Dude Jeff Bridges and Katie Holmes.
The movie is adapted from the popular 1993 young adult novel by Lois Lowry. It’s set in a futuristic society in which memory and emotion have been totally eradicated, and one individual, the Receiver, is chosen to preserve the memory of the past. He’s trained by the Giver, to be played by Bridges. The young man becomes increasingly disillusioned with his society as the story progresses.
According to Variety, Swift will play Rosemary, the last teen mentored by the Giver before the film’s protagonist.
The country singer has previously mentioned a desire to explore acting, and has appeared in small roles in 2010’s “Valentine’s Day” and on Zooey Deschanel’s “New Girl.”
“The Giver” is expected to be released on August 15, 2014.
