'Bad Grandpa' tops 'Gravity' at North American Box Office

Jeff Tremaine's “ Bad Grandpa” has managed to top the American boxoffice list in it's first week of release, after grossing a sum of$32 million from 3,336 theaters. Starring Johnny Knoxville and Jackson Nicoll, the film kicked off Alfonso Cuaron's “ Gravity” from the first place on the list, which itkept for three consecutive weeks, but only made $20.3 million in itsthird week, enough to keep it in the second place.

Thirdon the list is “ Captain Phillips,” which moved back one step fromlast week's position with $11.8 million, and a total of $70 million.In it's first week, “ The Counselor” came in 4th,after making a start of $8 million; which was quiet disappointing inthe presence of an ensemble cast including Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt, Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem and Cameron Diaz. Directed by Ridley Scott, the film is about a witty lawyer who gets involved indrug trafficking.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2” has kept its 5thposition from last week, collecting $6.1 million this week, while“ Carrie” lost three places to land at number 6 this week, withonly $5.9 million. Coming4thlast week, “ Escape Plan” lost three postitions to finish atnumber 7 this week, after adding $4.3 million to its total gross thisweek. Steve McQueen's “ Twelve Years a Slave” advanced from number16 to number 8 this week, after getting a wider release in moretheaters, adding $2.1 million to reach a gross of $3.4 million in itssecond week.

Lasttwo positions were for “Enough Said” and “ Prisoners”respectively, in their 6thweek, after collecting $1.5 and $1 million only.
