The 6th Panorama of TheEuropean Film opens today, screening the Nordic movie “ Kon-Tiki”as the opening movie, today at 9 Pm in Galaxy movie theater inManial.“Kon-Tiki” tells the story of theNorwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl who crossed the Pacific Ocean in awooden raft in 1947 to prove that South Americans back inpre-Columbian times could have crossed the ocean and settled onPolynesian islands. The movie was awarded the best foreign languagemovie at Palm Springs Film Festival. It was also nominated to aGolden Globe and an Oscar award for Best Foreign movie.
Besides the opening movie, the Panoramascreenings are in three theaters, running a full day show. In Galaxytoday, the screening of the French movie “ Populaire” directed by Régis Roinsard, the Tunisian movie “ Cursed be the Phosphate,”directed by Sami Tlili and the Spanish “ Blancanieves,” directedby Pablo Berger.
In City Stars movie theater, The Frenchclassic “ Beauty and The Beast” by René Clément, the Icelandic movie “ The Deep” directed by Baltasar Kormákur, the Frenchdocumentary “ Sons of The Wind,” directed by Bruno Le Jean, theGerman/Dutch/Russian movie “ The Girl and Death,” directed by Jos Stelling and the German/ French production “ Circles.”
In Plaza theater, the Panorama screensThe Iranian feature “Acrid,” directed by Kiarash Asadizadeh, “ Die Welt,” a Dutch drama directed by Alexander Pitstra, the Frenchfeature “ Alceste A Bicyclette” directed by Philippe Le Guay, andthe British features “ What Richard Did” and “ Quartet”directed by Leonard Abrahamson and Dustin Hoffman respectively.
