The Oscars' Documentaries' Shortlist is Revealed, Choosing the Egyptian “The Square”

From a 151 documentaries theAcademy's documentary branch have chosen 15 titles to the shortlist,from which the 5 best documentaries Oscar nominees will be chosen.

The list includes most ofthe big titles that year that already made a buzz in other filmfestivals around the world. From those titles come “The Act ofKilling,” “Cutie and the Boxer” and finally the good news toall Egyptians, “Al Midan” ( The Square).

“The Square” is theoutcome of 20 months of shooting and 36 hours of being under arrest and tortureby Jehane Noujaim . The documentary won audience awards in both Sundanceand Torronto film festivals. The film is distributed by Netflix inits first time to reach Oscars' shortlist.
