A number of Hollywood stars have called out for the Japanese people to stop their government from condoning dolphin hunting, which is considered an annual rite that takes place on the Japanese shores.

Susan Sarandon was among the stars who saw the act as “heartbreaking and infuriating,” and Charlie Sheen spoke to several animal rights organizations to take serious action against the rite. "The Japanese people need to stop the slaughter in Taiji... We can not bully them into stepping up. We can just bring it into their view," Kirstie Alley wrote.

A wave of criticism was focused on Japan recently, at the start of the dolphin hunting season, in which dolphins are herded into shallow waters and killed for their meat.
