The closing ceremony of the third Luxor Afircan Film Festival took place last Monday, with the presence of Major General Tareq Said Eldin, governor of Luxor, who mentioned the importance of the governorate's security, and the vast efforts made to arrange the festival, which hosts a lot of guests from different African nations annually.
Director Khaled Youssef made a speech, in which he described the festival as a major event in the region, despite it being only as old as the 25th of January uprising, and mentioned that the late president Gamal Abdul Nasser was the first leader to realize the importance of Egypt in the context of the African content, and that Egyptians cherish and respect their fellow African nations.
Screenwriter Sayed Fouad, who is the president of the festival, and Azza Alhoseiny, the festival's manager, both talked about the efforts they made along with their crew to maintain a level of quality that is competent with Luxor's culture and history.
The speeches were followed by the awards announcement ceremony, and finally the Ethiopian director Haile Gerima a memorial picture with the students who have attended his seminar. He said that he hopes they achieve their aspired success as great African filmmakers.
The ceremony also featured a live performance by Senegalese singer Awadi Ahya.
