In Photos: “Thelma and Louise” Stars Recreate Their Famous “Selfie”, 23 Years Later

Nearly 23 years after the release of the classic American film, “ Thelma and Louise,” Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis decided to reproduce a famous image from the movie, claiming it as the first ever"selfie."

Sarandon posted the photo of the two actresses on her Twitter account alongside an original screenshot from the movie with the caption, “Inventors of the #selfie are at it again.”

Released in 1991, “Thelma and Louise” tells the story of two friends who decide to leave their ordinary suburban lives behind and hit the road. When their adventure goes haywire,they find themselves on the wrong end of a police chase fleeing for their lives. The film was an instant classic and won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.
