“The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” Tops American Box Office With $90.6 Million

Five days after its wide release in American theaters, “ The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” has managed to top the box office list throughout the states.

The Peter Jackson film grossed $90.6, while exceeding the $300 million mark worldwide, reaching a total gross of $355.6 million.

With the aforementioned numbers, The Five Armies is currently enjoying the most successful opening among the former two Hobbit films “ An Unexpected Journey” and “ The Desolation of Smaug”, which opened to $84.6 million and 73.6 million respectively.

The film follows the dwarves after they find and awaken Smaug the dragon, and the battle of the five armies ensues, between the Goblins and the Wargs, against the Men of Lake-town, the Elves, the Dwarves, the Eagles and Beorn, over the control of Erebor and the treasure inside it.
