Director Asmaa Elbakry has died yesterday, at the age of 68, of a sudden heart attack.
Elbakry was an Egyptian director, screenwriter and producer. She was born in Cairo in 1947, and started her career in 1973 as an assistant director to Youssef Chahine.
Elbakry directed three feature films: “ Shahazoon wa Nubalaa'” (Beggars and Noblemen) in 1991, “ Concerto Darb Saada” (Concerto in Darb Saada) in 1998 and “ Al Onf wal Sokhreya” (Violence and Sarcasm) in 2003.
Youssry Nasrallah was the first to write an obituary on social media, tweeting: “Today we lost a dear friend and a talented director: Asmaa Elbakry”.
