President of the Egyptian censorship board ِ Abdel Sattar Fathy has announced that starting from the beginning of next April, the censorship will exchange its policy of deleting nude scenes from foregin film released in theaters, with the age-based rating system.

Fathy elaborated that the films will be screened in their entirety, without deleting any scenes from them. The only films that will be completely banned are the ones which contain direct reference and/or preaching to atheism, and porn films. He added that the age-based rating decision came after a series of extensive, year-long meetings that were made by members of the board throughout the past year under the supervision of the minister of culture Dr. Gaber Assfour.

Abdel Sattar also mentioned that during his presidency, the board has not decided to ban any film from theatrical release in Egypt except for “ Exodus: Gods and Kings”, after meeting with several history professors who argued that the film should not be screened to Egyptian audience as it contains zionist and racist ideology.

Fathy added that he approved the release of many films that were “buried”, like “ La Moa'khza”, “ Farsh we Ghatta” and “Asmaa”.
