Regarding Youssef El Sherif's most recent role, which appears in the television series " Leabet Eblis" (The Devil's Game), critic Ihab Eltorky wrote that El-Sherif is offering a series targeted to a niche audience, specifically those who are exposed to western suspense dramas and psychological thrillers, and that by doing so, not only this year, but also over the past four years, El-Sherif has opened a new category for himself in Egyptian dramas, a move scarcely preceded by other A-list stars.

On the other hand, Eltorky mentioned that El-Sherif's endeavors with such genres, which are aesthetically alienated from their geographical and cultural context, (citing "Al Sayyad" (The Hunter) and "Esm Moa'aqat" (Temporary Name) as successful examples), led him to a somehow extreme experiment with The Devil's Game, which can be seen as an exercise in self-indulgence.

However, Eltorky praised the series' cinematography and mise-en-scene, while describing El-Sherif's performance as weaker than his previous efforts over the past few years.
