After an elderly woman complains about her late pension, the institution manager, Abdel Raham, rebukes his employees for not doing their job properly. Awad refuses to give his son, Lotfy, money to buy clothes for himself and for his sister Fardous.
Awad beats an employee when the latter refuses to pay him for the merchandise he took. When he is arrested, his twin brother Abdel Rahman bails him out. Lotfy complains to his uncle about his father's miserliness, and Abdel Rahman promises to speak with Awad.
Awad enlists Abdel Rahman's help to save him from a police officer. Kamal's mother talks to him about proposing to his cousin, Fardous, but Kamal refuses because he wants to pursue his master's degree.
Fawzy asks Galal to tutor his son Atta in French. Fakhry complains about the students to whom Awad rented the place next-door. When he fights with them and calls Awad, the latter rebukes the students and promises that they won't bother Fakhry again.
After Abdel Rahman refuses to grant his brother a special pension on the basis of illness, he rebukes his brother and warns him not to pull such a stunt again. Lotfy blackmails Galal when he learns that the latter is giving Atta private lessons and takes money from him to keep silent about it.
Hekmat leaves the house after her husband Awad refuses to give her money. As Awad searches for her and puts her picture in the newspapers, he discovers that she is at Abdel Rahman's place. Fakhry meets Fardous and grows to like her.
Hekmat grows angry when Awad tells her that the much older Fakhry Bey asked for Fardous's hand. While Hekmat opposes the marriage, Awad manages to convince Fardous to accept. Awad and Fakhry go over the wedding arrangements.
After Fakhry weds Fardous, he turns out to be an extremely jealous man. Galal gets engaged to Fawzy's daughter, Zuba, behind his family's back. Lotfy and his friend make a bet for Lotfy to eat thirty sandwiches for ten pounds, only for Lotfy to get sick afterwards.
Galal leaves the house after a fight with his father. Awad takes advantage of Abdel Rahman's need for money and buys his share in their father's house for a small sum of money.
Fardous fights with her husband over his jealously and leaves for her father's house. When Fakhry learns that Fardous is pregnant, he takes her to his farmhouse so that he could look after her and provide her with all means of comfort.
Fakhry's brother, Riad doubts the paternity of Fakhry's child when he recalls that Fakhry is sterile. Fakhry is furious when Riad talks to him about it, before he learns that Riad was mistaken and that the medical reports belonging to his late wife Sou'ad were wrong.
When Fardous falls down and loses the baby, Fakhry's attitude changes drastically and he insults her and her family. Fakhry tells Awad that he is going to divorce Fardous.
Fakhry ends all his business dealings with Awad and demands that he pays him 200 thousand pounds for the promissory notes that Awad wrote him. When Awad gets arrested, he has to choose between paying the money or going to jail. Awad pays the money then gets paralyzed.
Galal graduates and is appointed as a prosecutor. Fakhry discovers that his brother and his wife are the reason Fardous miscarried. Galal fights with his father after the latter continues to try and ask for aid from various agencies.
Galal breaks off his engagement to Zuba. Kamal gets engaged to Fardous. When Galal gives his uncle money for his share in his grandfather's house, Awad gets angry with Galal for selling the house. As Awad dies, his children discover that he has huge amount of money hidden in the warehouse.
