Suffering from constant nightmares, Emad spends his nights smoking at gambling halls. As Emad meets the painter Ruba and gets her a taxi, an explosion lands her in danger. As Bassam checks on Ruba, he tells Emad about what she went through.

A year later, Ruba prepares for her new exhibit, asking Mona to distribute the invites. Bassam asks Emad to attend the exhibit. As Emad shows up, Ruba recalls meeting him on the day of the explosion, but Emad doesn't remember her. Emad buys all the paintings.

As Bassam receives a tempting work offer in Dubai, Mona refuses to leave Beirut. Emad visits his son's grave. As Ruba tells Emad about how her cousin died in the war, she tells her aunt Nour that she liked Emad. Mona's life hangs in the balance due to her pregnancy.

As Mona suffers a miscarriage, Emad informs Bassam, who is unable to leave his work in Dubai. Gigi promises Bassam to find him a seat on a flight to Beirut in two days. Ruba tells Emad that there is a barrier between them. Jawad tries to get close to Ruba.

Ruba learns of the death of Emad's son, Rabi'e, and that he is buried in the villa's garden. Jawad proposes to Ruba. Gigi thinks of producing an album for Bassam. As Gigi celebrates Bassam's birthday with him, Mona suspects that they are having an affair and asks Bassam to go back to Beirut with her.

As Ruba passes out, Emad helps her recover. Suha tells Bassam that Mona's mother has died. Bassam complains to Emad about Mona's overt jealousy. Gigi decides to open a production company for Bassem. As Mona suffers a second miscarriage while Bassam is in Greece, she decides to get a divorce.

Traumatized by his son's death, Emad refuses to have children with Ruba in case they married, but she refuses. As Emad leaves Ruba, Bassam divorces Mona after she sues him for divorce. Bassam starts a secret relationship with Gigi. Jawad asks Ruba to find him a villa to buy.

As Emad returns from his trip, he is happy to see the painting of Rabi'e that Ruba painted on the walls. Ruba tells Jawad that she found him a furnished house to buy. As Emad faces financial difficulty, he considers selling his house. Bassam decides to dedicate himself to the production company.

As Jawad proposes to Ruba, she stipulates that they must have children. As they get married, Ruba gets pregnant with twins. Gigi tells Nadine to stay away from Bassam. Bassam tells Emad that Ruba has married Jawad. As Gigi gets gravely ill, Bassam tries to console her. Ruba gives birth to a boy and a girl.

As Gigi undergoes surgery, the doctor tells Bassam that she is in critical condition. Suha gets involved with Ghassan. Mona asks Ruba to find a job for Ghassan in Jawad's company. As Nadine confesses her feelings for Bassam, he rebuffs her.

Jawad goes through a health crisis. Emad continues to gamble his life away. As Ramy returns to work, Dr. Ramy goes to check on him and meets Mona. Nabila visits Emad and informs him that she is getting married. When Ruba's son gets injured, Jawad accuses her of neglect. Gigi slips into a coma.

Gigi passes away, leaving Bassam in mourning. Jawad thinks about making Ramy the manager of his medical center. Emad returns to Beirut. As Emad tells Mona about Gigi's death, she learns that Gigi wrote half her properties over to him.

As Emad wins big at gambling, he pays off his debts, refusing to listen to his friend's advice to give up gambling. Bassam holds auditions to sign singers up for his production company. Jawad tries to prevent Ruba from drawing. Nadine buys Emad a watch. Mounir asks Bassam to listen to Abir's voice.

Emad runs into Ruba and Mona at a restaurant. Jawad tells Ruba that Ra'fat wants him to partner up with him to build a number of hotels. Ehab confesses his love for Ruba. Ruba is caught between her old feelings for Emad, her marriage to Jawad, and Ehab's love for her.

As Jawad returns from abroad, he grows mad when he doesn't find Ruba at home, leading to a fight between them. As Jawad travels again, Ruba tells Ehab that Jawad is suspicious of her. Ehab tells Emad that he is in love with a married woman. Nadine quarrels with Abir out of jealousy over Bassam.

Emad confirms that Ehab is in love with Ruba. Bassam continues his rehearsals with Abir. Ehab questions Emad about his former sweetheart. Jawad informs Ruba that he is in Dubai. As Yousef and Abir celebrate the former's birthday, Yousef confesses his love for her. Ehab tells Ruba that he will leave Beirut.

Jawad dies during open-heart surgery. As Emad goes to offer his condolences to Ruba, he discovers that she named her son after him. Ruba decides to build a hospital and a school and to increase her employees' salaries. Emad helps Ruba market her paintings.

Abir and Bassam plan their wedding. Mona prepares to wed Ghayath. As Ruba checks Ehab's letters, she sends him one to inform him of her husband's death, sending him a book called The Broken Bird. Emad gambles away everything he owns.

Ruba prevents Emad's house from being sold. Mona tries to finish her work before her wedding. The lawyer refuses to tell Emad the identity of the person who saved his house. Ruba is shocked when Ehab returns. Bassam weds Abir as Mona gets married as well. Ehab dies in a car accident.

Emad tells Ruba about Ehab's death. Bassam and Abir celebrate the success of their company along with Emad and Ruba. As Emad tries to pay his debt to the lawyer, he learns that Ruba is the one who helped him with his crisis. Nour asks Ruba to remarry. Bassam is thrilled when Abir gets pregnant.

As Ruba gives Emad a job, Nour warns her about his gambling, but Ruba assures her that he is no longer involved in that world. Mona gets back pain due to her long work hours. Emad gets close to Ruba's children. Abir gives birth to a boy.

Tension rises between Ruba and Emad when she sees him with Amal at a restaurant. Mona's tests show that she needs a hysterectomy. Emad tells Bassam that Mona is undergoing surgery. Emad discovers that Amal's brother was paralyzed in a bombing a few years back.

Amal visits Ruba's exhibit to buy some paintings. Abir is upset with Bassem's frequent trips. Mona's spirits plummet after her operation, leaving Ghayath to console her. Ruba invites Feras to dinner as they grow close. Amal asks Emad not to give in to despair.

Mona tells Ruba that she is going to resign to travel abroad. The conflict between Ruba and Emad escalates. Bassam asks Ruba to wed Emad. Emad decides to quit and travel. Bassam buys Gigi's house and turns it into a recording studio. Ruba goes to Emad's house while he is on his way to the airport.

Abir visits Ruba and tells her that she is recording songs for children. Hassaan asks Ruba to hold an exhibit. Ghassan returns from abroad. Emad decides to open his own company. Bassam recalls his memories with Gigi. Ruba launches a medical institution in Jawad's name.

As Ruba starts painting again, Feras confesses his love for her. Ghassan is put in charge of Ruba's exhibit. Bassam refuses to sign on the aspiring singer Lola, who has a weak voice. Ruba prepares for her new exhibit with Ghassan's help.

Emad asks Amal about Essam. Feras tells Ruba that he misses her. As Hassaan senses that Ruba is unhappy, he confesses his feelings for her. Amal decides to leave Emad and go to Lebanon.

Feras congratulates Ruba on the exhibit, revealing that he knows about her relationship with Hassaan. Amal checks on Emad and learns that he may visit Beirut soon. As the sculptor notices that Ruba is sad, he shares his own suffering with his family because of his artistic leanings.

As Bassam checks on Emad, Ruba grows worried for him since he has moved his son's remains from the villa and into a cemetary. Bassam advises Amal to open a ballet school for children. As Ruba thanks Hassaan for supporting her at the factory, he is saddened that Ruba doesn't reciprocate his feelings.

When Emad informs Ruba that he will emigrate to Canada, she accuses him of hurting her, an accusation that he meets with pointing out that her jealousy is what doomed their relationship. As Ruba reflects on her memories with Emad, she tells him that she will not go on without him.
