When Director Ahmed tests a number of new actresses and Ilham catches his eye, he agrees to give her a chance. The mother goes to Ahmed to tell him that his father is very ill.

After the father reproaches Ahmed for leaving him in the town and pursuing art, the father dies of his illness, and Ilham comes to offer him condolences.

After Ahmed clashes with his uncle due to an old dispute over the grandfather's property that he seized, Ahmed finds the father's will in which he enjoins him to keep the family home.

As Ahmed begins rehearsing the new play with Ilham, he soon feels attracted to her.

Ahmed's uncle comes to threaten his mother in order to get the house. Lama asks Ahmed to help her get a minister's sponsorship for her exhibition.

As the opening night of the new play approaches, Ilham and Ahmed increase the rehearsals. Ahmed's mother is constantly harassed by Ahmed's uncle, so a neighbor tries to help her.

After Ahmed decides to protect Ilham from being harassed by someone in the theater, he finds out what the uncle did to his mother and decides to stand up to him.

After Ahmed tries to reach a solution with the municipal administration, which asks him to move the stage sets, Ahmed is hospitalized and Ilham accompanies him.

The uncle threatens Ahmed's family, but Ahmed confronts him and kicks him out of the house. Lama tells her mother that she's had a customary marriage to Wajeeh. Ahmed and Ilham declare their feelings for each other.

Ahmed and Ilham get married, and they travel together to spend their honeymoon in the far reaches of a coastal town.

At home, Ahmed begins preparing for a new play, then decides with Ilham to return to the city. Ahmed's daughter talks to him about patching things up with her mother.

Ilham is offered a role in a movie, but she receives the news coldly. The uncle tries to steal the ownership papers of Ahmed's family home.

Despite the fact that Ahmed decides to stand by Ilham in her new movie and to postpone his travels in order to support her, the relationship between them is strained.

Ahmed tells the screenwriter of the film starring Ilham his reservations about two whole scenes from the film, asking him to rewrite them.

Ahmed is working on a new play, but decides to assign another girl to star in it, other than Ilham, who is busy shooting the movie.

The chasm grows between Ahmed and Ilham, and a new problem arises when he finds Badi, the screenwriter, driving her home in his private car.

When Ilham falls seriously ill from the exhaustion of the continuous shooting, Ahmed takes care of her, and asks to postpone the shooting to preserve her health against her will, but as she returns to the set, Ahmed insults her in front of everyone.

As Ahmed discovers that his wife Ilham has leukemia in its last stages, and that she has only one month left to live, he endeavors to take care of her in her last days.
