When Dalal objects to her husband Soliman's drunkness, gambling, and theft, Soliman beats her as his son, Mubarak, gets upset with his father's behavior. Dalal encourages Mubarak to focus on his studies.
When Dalal goes to Soliman's older brother, Abdel Aziz, to ask for help, Abdel Aziz admonishes his brother when he tries to borrow money from him. Soliman tries to pay his gambling debts to Abu Walid. Mubarak starts missing school as his school performance goes downhill.
Soliman holds Dalal responsible for Mubarak's poor school performance. As Mubarak goes to stay with his uncle, his uncle's wife opposes his presence. Soliman borrows money from Abdel Aziz's business competitor, Ibrahim. Mubarak befriends the ill-reputed Mansour.
When Soliman gets fired, Ibrahim and Abu Bashar plot to hire Soliman to work against Abdel Aziz. At school, Nasser steals the wallet of a fellow student and gives it to Mubarak, whom he gets to smoke.
As Soliman starts working with Ibrahim, he keeps the smuggled goods in his house. Mubarak tells his mother that he wants to drop out of school.
Mubarak learns that his father is trading in smuggled goods. When Dalal notices that Soliman always has money, he claims that he is selling cars. Mubarak and Nasser do drugs together.
As Mubarak runs away from home, he asks Nasser to provide him with drugs. Mubarak gets expelled from school. As the police start monitoring Soliman, Ibrahim decides to stop working with him.
After Soliman quarrels with Ibrahim, the former gets in a car accident that claims his life. Meshael asks his father, Abdel Aziz, to mediate with the school to accept Mubarak's return.
The police continue monitoring Abu Walid for working with Ibrahim. Ibrahim thinks about marrying Dalal after Soliman's death.
Ibrahim asks Abdel Aziz for Dalal's hand. Dalal learns that Mubarak was expelled from school. The police officer, Abdullah, continues to monitor Abu Walid and Bashar.
When Dalal weds Ibrahim, Mubarak grows angry and leaves the house. Upon his return, he quarrels with Ibrahim, who beats him. Mubarak decides to trade in narcotics.
As Mubarak plots with Nasser to vandalize Ibrahim's office and steal his money, he also agrees with Abu Walid to join him in trading drugs. The police arrest Bashar.
Mubarak gets arrested and sentenced to prison, sending Dalal into a psychological crisis that lands her in the hospital.
Mubarak decides to use his time in jail to make amends, becoming religious and steering away from bad influence. As Meshael visits Mubarak in prison after graduating from college, Mubarak gets pardoned and released.
