Farida Al-Minshawi is a college professor living in Russia with her husband the writer Sherif Afifi. In Egypt, Sherif publishes a novel about a businessman named Soliman, in which he exposes a murder he committed. Sherif goes missing and Farida returns to look for him. His publishing house gets burned.
The police starts investigating Sherif's disappearance. Farida finds out that he's married to another woman named Sulafa. She begins to track a painting given to her by Sherif, which was drawn by Nader Al-Rifai, who was killed by Soliman. She finds a hidden copy of Sherif's novel in its frame.
Farida finds that Sherif dedicated his novel to his second wife Sulafa and she tries to find her. In the novel, Farida reads about the story behind Nasima's painting, which Sherif gave to Farida.
In the novel Nader married Nasima and the very powerful Soliman appears and he becomes very sick. Back in Sherif's case, the police finds his car drowned in a canal but no trace of him. Farida accuses Soliman in the investigations.
In the novel Soliman tries to get close to Nasima and he gets her an expensive gift on her birthday and Nader gives Nasima the painting.
In the novel, Soliman plants wiretapping devices in Nasima and Nader's apartment to hear what they say. Farida finds out that Nasima died 50 years ago, while Sherif told her he met her in recent years.
In the novel Soliman and Nasima's relationship become more stronger. She invites him to a new year's party, where he sees a girl he knows and warns her not to come again. Farida goes to Nasima's apartment and drops a vase when someone knocks at the door.
Farida escapes from the apartment before she gets caught and Soliman finds out. Soliman's neighbor tells him that the woman who broke into the apartment looks like Nasima.
It's revealed that Soliman is an undercover officer called Ahmed Muwafi and he's assigned to uncover an espionage network that runs inside Nasima's apartment. Soliman is shocked by the stunning resemblance between Nasima and Farida. Sulafa contacts Farida and they meet.
Farida is interrogated for breaking into Nasima'a apartment and the officer tells her that it's impossible that Sherif saw Nasima two years ago. He also tells her that Sherif had the publishing house insured before it got burned.
Sulafa tells Farida that she had partnership with Sherif in the publishing house, and that she paid the insurance. Soliman threatens Sherif's friend, Amr to get him the copy of the novel that Farida has.
In a flashback, Sherif tries to track Nader's disappearance and goes to meet Soliman. Soliman starts gathering information about Sherif and Farida.
In a flashback, Sulafa and Sherif start to get to know each other. As for Farida, she starts to find out about Nasima’s sickness and her suicide after her husband’s death. Soliman begins to think about publishing his memoirs, but his medical condition gets worse.
Soliman finds out that he only has 6 months to live. Sulafa wants to find Mariam, who was the link between Nasima and Sherif before he disappeared. In the novel, Nader and Nasima's financial situation is getting worse, while Soliman recruits Nasima's close friend, Doryia to obtain secrets from her.
In flashback, Doryia disappears from Nasima's life after Soliman threatens her. At present time, Sulafa asks Farida about Sherif's hidden copy of the novel but she denies any knowledge of it. Sulafa tells Soliman that she knows who he really is.
Soliman starts writing his memoirs while he's sick in bed, and he stops Farida from traveling to Russia.
Soliman takes Farida to Alexandria, where Sherif is hiding with Sulafa. Farida asks for a divorce and leaves.
After Major Emad followed Soliman and Farida, he found out the truth about Sherif and Sulafa and he tells Farida that she's not allowed to travel. Soliman asks Amr to publish an official apology after his innocence is revealed.
In flashback, the police arrests Nasima and she gets accused of running a network to overthrow the government within her apartment, while Nader goes missing and Soliman lives in their apartment like he owns it. In present time, Sherif and Farida decide to separate.
In flashback, Soliman helps Nasima to prove her innocence in the case. At present time, Soliman invites Farida to dinner and he gives her a check with one million dollars, but he passes out before he could tell her what it's for.
Soliman wants Farida to write his memoirs and she agrees. Farida finds out that the copy of Sherif's novel is lost from her apartment. In flashback, Soliman hides from Nasima bad news he found out about Nader.
In flashback, Nasima identifies Nader's body in the morgue and her health deteriorates and is taken to the hospital. In present time, Sherif looks in the hospital records for Nasima's files and a man named Shaker.
In flashback, Soliman and Nasima get married but she's haunted by her memories with Nader. At present time, Soliman dictates his memoir's to Farida and he's spying on her through her laptop's camera.
In flashback, Soliman tries to keep Nasima from thinking about Nader but she can't. In present time, Soliman asks Amr to withdraw all of Sherif's novels from publishers and he asks Farida to run his company after he dies.
In flashback, Doryia reappears and she tells Nasima to run away. In present time, Farida accuses Sherif and Sulafa of stealing the painting and the novel. Sherif finds Malak, the owner of the studio that Nader worked with, and he sells him the painting that Nader drew of Soliman.
Soliman asks Farida to marry him but she declines and she decides not to write his memoirs. In flashback, Nasima starts to suspect Soliman and she discovers a secret room behind his library.
Sherif finds out that Sulafa is Doryia's daughter and that she stole the copy of his novel and set fire to the publishing house. In flashback, Nasima finds all of Soliman's secrets and accuses him of killing Nader.
Farida is kidnapped and Sherif can't prove that Soliman did it. In flashback, Soliman locks Nasima up and when she calls the police, she can't prove anything on Soliman.
In flashback, Nasima falls apart and Soliman puts her in a mental institution and she insists on only one thing: that Soliman killed Farid. At present time, Soliman reveals to Farida that he killed Nader with a cocaine injection to get rid of him.
Soliman is taken to the hospital and Sherif rescues Farida. It's revealed that Nasima is still alive, and that she hid in a monastery of nuns all these years. Farida and Sherif go to meet her but she refuses to see them. Nasima goes to the hospital to watch Soliman as he slowly dies.
