The play is an attempt to solve the crisis of contemporary Egyptian consciousness in being torn between traditions based on magical powers represented by treatment with Zar and rational modernity based on adopting modern scientific methods, and it attempts to analyze the real motives for the emergence and continuation of the Zar phenomenon.
