Ashehfan is a miserly man who wants to buy a donkey but wants the donkey to eat only once per week. He buys a sick donkey from Ga'oud but the donkey dies due to Ashehfan's miserliness. To get his money back, Ashehfan claims that the donkey got better. The judge rules that Ga'oud gets half the money.
Makdet makes use of Ashehfan's miserliness to set him up. Makdet claims that the judge gave him a lot of money after he wrote a poem praising his courage, so Ashehfan writes a poem as well, but the judge thinks that he is making fun of him and has him whipped.
To celebrate the birth of his baby, Sultan invites everyone to lunch. Makdet deceives Ashehfan and tells him that the lunch is being held in Al-Sa'eid's house. By the time Ashehfan realizes that he has been deceived, the meal is over.
Makdet sets Ashehfan up and makes him a bet that whoever manages to deceive the other gets a sum of money. When Ashehfan wins, Makdet reports him to the police for stealing camels. Ashehfan survives the scheme.
When Sawalem looks for a house to buy, Makdet advises him to buy Ashehfan's house. Makdet asks Ashehfan for a commission but the latter refuses and buries the money under a tree in the desert. Makdet sees him and decides to rob him.
Makdet causes a lot of trouble for Ashehfan when he leaves spoiled food with him, then tells the people of the neighborhood that Ashehfan is the one who has the spoiled food. The judge fines Ashehfan and Abu Taber.
Ashehfan lies to a merchant and claims to be Makdet so that he could seize his stuff. Everyone is surprised when they find out.
Makdet tells Ashehfan about a wedding in Al Fareej. He claims that the groom is giving money to whoever could tear his and his friend's attire off. Ashehfan tries to win the money, only to discover that he was deceived.
When Ashehfan buys a sheep's head to eat, Makdet invites him and Akrany to the meal and tells everyone about Ashehfan and the slaughtered animal.
When Makdet tells Ashehfan's brother that Ashehfan took his goat, the two brothers quarrel. Ashehfan insists that the goat is his share of the inheritance. As he agrees with his wife to slaughter the goat and eat it over several months, the goat dies.
When Sawalem asks for the hand of Ashehfan's daughter, Ashehfan asks for a huge dowry and refuses to pay anything for her wedding. The judge asks the people to help a sick, poor man. When Ashehfan claims that he is cured, the poor man gets angry. Ashehfan gets injured.
When Ashehfan's brother, Al-Mosbeh, decides to wed, he asks Ashehfan to help him because he is afraid of Makdet. Ashehfan sets them both up as they enter a guy's house, only to be accused of being thieves.
Ashehfan falls ill but refuses to go to the doctor because he doesn't want to pay the bill. When his son-in-law insists on taking him to the doctor, the latter discovers that Ashehfan ate the donkey's food.
The judge rebukes Ashehfan for eating the donkey's food. Makdet visits Ashehfan and brings him apples, but his visit reveals to Ashehfan the identity of the person who deceived him.
When Ashehfan invites his daughter and her husband Sawalem to have a meal with him, Makdet finds out and incites Akrany and Abu Taber. Ashehfan sells their shoes so that he could buy them food.
Ashehfan reveals that his wife is pregnant and asks people to give him some of the food they have. Makdet puts the judge's rosary in Ashehfan's pocket, but Ashehfan finds out and puts it in Akrany's pocket. The judge finds his rosary with Akrany.
Da'en, Ashehfan's son by his first wife, pays him a surprise visit. Ashehfan is upset by the visit and refuses to welcome him, but his daughter invites her brother for lunch and welcomes him.
Ashehfan takes revenge on Makdet and Akrany by stealing library tools and paper from their government office. The judge asks him to make amends and confess to what he did. Ashehfan gets a stomachache after he eats cheap food.
Ashehfan starts working for Abu Taber at the cafe. When Makdet and Akrany refuse to pay after ordering a lot of things, Abu Taber quarrels with Ashehfan. Ashehfan is annoyed that his nephew is staying with him and gives him a rock to sleep on instead of a pillow.
When Ashehfan rebukes his son-in-law for inviting his friends over to share a meal, Sawalem tells him that he had to because they made fun of him because of the food Ashehfan served on his wedding night. Ashehfan is concerned that the sick Makdet will die without paying off his debt to him.
Ashehfan awaits his cousins' visit so that he could get money from them. But when his cousins arrive, they grow upset with him for the way he received them.
Abu Taber hosts Ashehfan's cousins as Ashehfan looks for them. When he finally finds them, they refuse to go back to him due to his extreme miserliness.
Makdet suggests that Ashehfan invite everyone for a meal to win his cousins' forgiveness. Ashehfan sells the gift his cousins gave him to buy a sheep. His cousins discover what he did and grow more upset with him.
Ashehfan decides to spend some money to make his house welcoming for his guests. He promises to give Akrany food and money if he tattles on Makdet and informs him of his plots. Ashehfan catches Makdet in his house and accuses him of theft.
Ashehfan decides to wed Umm Khelfan. As his first wife, Umm Harb, grows upset, Ashehfan asks Abu Taber to help him with his marriage.
Makdet thinks up a new plot and steals the bride's gold. He gets Akrany to claim that Umm Khelfan is the one who stole it but Ashehfan learns the truth. Ashehfan weds Umm Khelfan.
