Set in a secluded rural place in Algeria; a girl reaches the age of spinsterhood due to a strange disease that makes her fall asleep. As the girl's brother is annoyed by the villagers' gossip, he claims that a rich, highly influential suitor wants to marry her; meanwhile, he rejects his sister's love for a poor young man.
