The play revolves around the threat of the Tatars, led by Tamerlane, to destroy the city unless the Sultan marries his daughter, Princess Zahabia. He sends Ahmed Al Ghalban with a message of marriage, but he falls in love with the princess and decides to resist them with a group of young men. Anger leads the people against internal and political corruption to save the city from collapse.
