Maarouf is a good, poor man who lives with his small family, while his stingy brother Hamed stands in the way of his son Essam's marrying his cousin Ratiba. When Maarouf does an act of kindness for a wealthy man, the latter bequeaths all his money to him upon his death, at which point the life of Maarouf's family changes.
