Uncle Maarouf sells firewood in the market and lives with his wife in a room at his brother's. Out of his ingenuousness, Maarouf causes many problems with his arrogant wife.
Maarouf tries to sell the donkey to get money for his wife and his daughter, who loves her cousin Essam, while Maarouf's brother lives a life of wealth and asks him to carry out a mission.
Maarouf's brother mocks him, and his wife acts superior to Maarouf's wife as she wears shabby clothes, so Essam gives his uncle Maarouf some money, but the money gets stolen from Maarouf.
Maarouf accuses his wife of robbing him, and when he finds the money, he returns it to Essam, with whom his father quarrels over that. Hamed asks Maarouf to transport some goods for him.
As Maarouf loses the money that Hamed gave him, he accuses his wife again of robbing him, but he eventually discovers that he hides the money underfloor and forgets about it.
Maarouf discovers that he sleepwalks. Elsewhere, Essam proposes to his cousin, Ratiba, and tells his parents that he wants to marry her.
Essam's parents reject the idea of his marrying Ratiba due to her poverty, whereupon they decide to kick Maarouf and his family out of the house, so Maarouf is forced to seek help.
As Essam runs away from home, Hamed thinks that Maarouf took Essam, but he finds him unconscious, while Maarouf helps a blind man named Bashar.
Umm Essam (Essam's mother) asks Umm Ratiba to come back home, while Maarouf takes care of the blind Bashar, whose condition has deteriorated a lot.
As Umm Ratiba tries to learn the secret behind Maarouf's staying out late every night, she goes to Bashar's house to find out.
Bashar gives his money to Maarouf, and when Hamed learns about it, he gets angry at Maarouf's vast wealth, so he agrees to Essam's marriage to Ratiba.
Maarouf refuses to wed his daughter to Essam, who decides to leave the house to find a job, while Hamed gets upset, decides to take revenge on Maarouf, and accuses him of damaging someone's eye.
Hamed plots to set an ambush for Maarouf to exact revenge on him, while Essam returns home.
Maarouf discovers the trap that Hamed has set for him, whereupon Maarouf relinquishes his right in front of everyone.
Hamed loses all his money, so Maarouf pays his debts for him, and Hamed thinks that he did it in order to humiliate him, but Maarouf proves to him otherwise.
