Karaz tells his friends Beethoven, Vando, and Izzat the story of a young man who was in love with a girl whose father refused to wed her to him, so the young man decided to commit suicide. Thereafter, the friends agreed to live without marriage for the rest of their lives.

The villagers receive Captain Abdullah after his return from abroad, and he tells the people of his village about his adventures abroad. The captain sees Salma for the first time, and she steals his heart.

The captain decides to cancel his agreement with his old friends and tells them that he has fallen in love with a girl and will marry her, but when he proposes to Salma, she turns him down.

The villagers hold a funeral for the captain after everyone knows that he thought of marriage. When Salma tells Waheed that she loves him, he goes crazy and jumps off the roof of the house out of joy.

Captain Abdullah tells his friends that he decided to travel abroad again after being rejected by Salma, whom he is fond of. The friends decide to help the captain win Salma's heart so she'd marry him.

The captain seeks the help of a matchmaker to persuade Salma to marry him, and is shocked by Salma's violent reaction after she burns his gifts and throws them in the street in front of him.

The captain carries on with his miserable attempts to persuade Salma to marry him. Salma's father joins the captain and tries to force his daughter to marry the captain.

Salma tries to commit suicide, and actually throws herself, but the captain catches her and tells her that he will constantly be sitting under her room's window.

The captain hires an Egyptian circus in front of Salma's balcony so that she can enjoy the shows, after which he goes up to see Salma and tells her about his love for her, but she evades him.

The captain decides to leave the town and emigrate, but his friends follow him and prevent him. He decides to punish his friends and make them listen to only one song continuously.

As an earthquake strikes the village, the villagers believe that the jinn have caused it. The captain criticizes the spreaders of rumors and strange stories. Waheed comes to visit Salma.

As the police decide to demolish Abyad's house, he stands up to them. The captain's friends notice that he's always absent-minded, thinking about his lover.

Laila falls in love with a young man from outside the village and tells her friend Salma. Beethoven, Karaz, Vando and Izzat brawl with the police because of their friend Abyad's house. The captain thinks of running for parliament.

The captain prepares for the elections. Salma suffers at home after everyone leaves her alone as a result of the pain she has caused the captain.

As the captain continues his preparations for the electoral battle, a quarrel occurs between the captain's supporters and the supporters of his rival Afandina.

A big storm blows over the village. Salma goes to vote in the elections and the captain asks her who she voted for, so she tells him that she did not choose any of the candidates.

The captain wins the elections. Waheed sends messages to his beloved Salma with one of the girls.

The captain learns by chance from the postman that the elections were orchestrated by his friends, and did not even exist.

Karaz marries Commandana after he agreed with her brother. Beethoven falls in love with a woman in the village, as do Vando and Izzat, despite their old agreement not to marry.

After Abyad passes away, the captain grieves over him and falls into severe depression. Salma sends messages to her lover, Waheed, with the girl who acts as a mediator between them.

El Tafesh agrees with a group of artists to perform the play Hamlet for the villagers. Salma tries to run away to see her beloved Waheed.

The captain and his friends agree on a mass suicide if he does not get a response from Salma. The villagers gather to see the five friends and what will happen.

The captain and his friends decide to commit suicide by shooting themselves. Siniora comes and asks the captain to stop the shooting, and he agrees.

Siniora tells the captain that Salma is in love with someone else. Izzat proposes to Siniora and she agrees. The captain tries to find out who his lover Salma is in love with.

After the captain discovers that Salma loves Waheed, he decides to help them marry, and his friends also get married, while he leaves the village.
